Living on
Turkle Time
Take the long way home. There is beauty worth noticing.
We believe beauty still lives in quiet places — in weathered wood, winding back roads, lake water at sunrise, and the stories carried by well-loved things.
Laughing Turkle is a quiet corner for meaningful treasures, thoughtful storytelling, and beauty worth noticing. So come on in for a bit, the world can wait just a little.

from
Country Roads
Laughing Turkle began long before it had a name—on the quiet country roads of eastern North Carolina, near the shores of Lake Phelps. That is where I learned that an ordinary afternoon could become a treasured story, that old things carry pieces of the people who loved them, and that the long way home is often the one worth taking.
Over the years, those early lessons followed me through many different chapters. I wrote stories, made jewelry, rescued beautiful and curious things, and tucked away memories I wasn’t ready to lose. For a long time, they seemed like separate pieces of my life.
Laughing Turkle is where those pieces finally came together. It is part vintage mercantile, part creative studio, part storytelling porch—and entirely personal. I’m Melissa “Missie” Shaw: writer, creator, treasure hunter, and lifelong believer that the things we choose to carry forward help tell the story of who we are.
Welcome. I’m so glad you found your way here.
